I am an interdisciplinary PhD candidate in the departments of Human Geography and Sociolinguistics at the University of Glasgow, researching multilingualism, minoritised languages and migration in and to rural areas in Scotland.
Broadly, my research explores the relationship between language and place in a way that aims to move within, against and beyond the territorialised monolingualism of the nation-state. I am interested in language and translation as a tool of intercultural communication, a (de)bordering technology and as a form of intangible cultural heritage, particularly in contexts of rural displacement.
My paper, 'Revocalising human geography: Decolonial language geographies beyond the nation-state', was published in Progress in Human Geography in October 2022. You can read it open access here.
I also coordinate the postgraduate network of GRAMNet, a network of researchers and practitioners, NGOs and policy makers working with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland.
